Rotarians gathered on November 24 for the annual District 6000 Foundation Reception in North Liberty, where an inspiring moment underscored the power of Rotarians' partnership in global health efforts.
During the event, Deepak Giri, Owner of Giri LLC, presented a $10,000 donation to Past District Governor Chris Knapp in support of Rotary's global campaign to eradicate polio. The contribution strengthens Rotary's continued partnership with the Gates Foundation, multiplying the impact of funds raised to protect children worldwide from this preventable disease.
Speaking at the reception, Deepak Giri reflected on the importance of the cause. "We come from a third-world country (NEPAL), and we have seen and heard enough about the devastation of polio," Deepak said. "Thanks to the hard work and dedication of Rotarians and partners like the Gates Foundation, we are closer than ever to eliminating it forever. But 'almost' is not enough. As long as polio exists anywhere, it remains a threat everywhere."
He emphasized that the contribution is a "small part of a much larger mission-one that protects children, strengthens communities, and secures a healthier future for generations to come."
Giri's donation reflects the ongoing dedication of community partners who believe in Rotary's mission and recognize the lasting impact of a polio-free world.
